About & Privacy
Daily Omikuji is a just-for-fun site inspired by omikuji, the paper fortunes drawn at Japanese shrines. Sign in with X and you can draw one fortune per day.
What we read
Sign-in uses X's official OAuth 2.0 and requests only two read-only scopes, users.read and tweet.read. We read your user ID, display name, username and avatar, solely to show who you are and to determine your fortune for the day.
What we never do
- We never post, like, follow or send DMs as you. “Share on X” simply opens X's compose screen; whether to post is up to you.
- We do not keep your X access token; it is revoked as soon as we have your profile.
- There is no database. Your sign-in lives in a signed cookie in your browser and is cleared when you sign out.
Language and region
On your first visit we estimate your region with an offline IP-to-country database bundled on our server (no external calls, nothing logged) to pick a default language. If you switch languages in the header, your choice is saved in a cookie named omikuji_lang and always takes priority.
How your fortune is chosen
Each day's fortune is derived deterministically from your X user ID and the date in Japan time, using a keyed HMAC. However often you reload, and whatever device or language you use, the result for the day is the same. After midnight Japan time (UTC+9) a new fortune awaits.
All fortune texts are original and for entertainment only. Please do not base important decisions on them.
